Dance Connects is looking for Dance Guides (M/F/X)

At Dance Connects we believe in a society in which everyone – young, old, vital or less vital – can fully participate. We also see that growing older brings challenges and that participation is not self-evident for everyone. That is why we strengthen the body, mind and social network of people from 50 to 100+ through dance.

We teach various types of contemporary dance lessons to 800 people from the region every week at around 70 locations. We also organize trips to the theater, club nights and other dance events.

Slow Flow Guidance

Specifically for seniors with physical and/or cognitive challenges we offer Slow Flow: a creative dance form, where we dance from the (wheel)chair. Dance supervisors support the teachers and participants of these dance lessons.

We are currently mainly looking for guidance for our Slow Flow classes in Amsterdam Noord and Nieuw-West, but also for classes in other parts of the city.

What are you going to do?

As a dance instructor, you ensure that everyone feels welcome and at ease during the lesson. You support the dance teacher and give extra attention to participants who need it. You help people who have a harder time participating to feel free and to move with pleasure in their own way.

You actively dance along, encourage participants with a smile or small gesture, and jump in where necessary. You help to set up the space, greet participants warmly and ensure a warm atmosphere. During the lesson, you pay close attention to what someone needs - whether that is an example movement, support with standing or just some personal contact.

You think along, inspire and support. Thanks to your efforts, participants feel seen and the teacher is given the space to be there for the entire group. This is how you really make a difference in the lesson.

Who are you?

You are enterprising, open, friendly and interested in personal stories and diverse cultures. You can naturally and easily interact with the elderly and you love dance and movement. You master the Dutch language at a minimum B1 level and are available to supervise at a fixed time each week.

What do we offer?

As a dance instructor at Dance Connects, you will become part of a warm and enthusiastic team of professionals and volunteers who work together to create more connection in society. You will receive good guidance, training or intervision twice a year, and a 25% discount on a strip card or subscription to dance yourself. In addition, you will receive travel expenses and you can participate in our outings and events free of charge.

What happens next?

• Introduction: on May 23rd you will hear whether you are invited for an introduction interview at our office in Amsterdam West. The introduction interviews will take place on May 27th and 30th between 10:00 and 17:00.
• Watch: To get an impression of what it's like, we invite you to attend a class between June 2 and June 13. We'll call you afterwards to hear about your experience.
• Start: Are you enthusiastic about getting started? Then, based on your availability, we will search for a suitable group(s) to guide. And we invite you to the start-up meeting for dance guides on June 19 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM , where you will get to know our organization, our method and other volunteers. You will hear whether you have been selected for a follow-up interview and attending lessons.
