As an opportunity builder, you guide a student from year 3 or 4 for five weeks. You help him/her discover what is possible with further education. You do this by making contact with companies or institutions and arranging two work visits.
Together you go on the road: you are there during the work visits and help the student to reflect on what fits and inspires. You not only open doors to the work floor, but also to new insights, personal growth and a clear vision of the future.
Do you want to give a young person that chance? It requires half a day per week of your time. You don't have to be an expert in education. We are looking for people who can listen, connect, want to open doors and enjoy going out with young people (on a voluntary basis). Do you recognize yourself in this? Then we would like to get in touch with you.
NEXT STEP is a successful project of the Calvijn College and has been part of our LOB program (Career orientation and guidance) for ten years. The first meeting consists of a training by an experienced coach where you will receive an explanation about the project and tools for guiding students. You will perform the work on a voluntary basis. Travel expenses for the work visits will be reimbursed (based on public transport).
As a volunteer you choose which part of the day (morning or afternoon) you want to be a 5x opportunity builder. You always help the same student and always come at the same time of day.
Morning part of the day:
- Thursday September 4 from 8:30 am to 11:00 am - training
- Thursday September 11 from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM - introduction to the student
- Thursday 25 September from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM - working visit 1
- Thursday October 2 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM - working visit 2
- Thursday October 16 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM - closing
Half day afternoon:
- Thursday September 4 from 12:00 to 14:30 - training
- Thursday September 11 from 12:30 to 15:00 - introduction to the student
- Thursday 25 September from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM - working visit 1
- Thursday October 2 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM - working visit 2
- Thursday October 16 from 12:00 to 14:00 - closing
